KAPE 2026 Scholarship Recipients
Brooke Brewer
Ms. Brewer is a fifth-grade teacher in Kentucky who loves helping students grow as writers and thinkers. Brooke is currently working toward my master’s degree in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education, and she is passionate about creating inclusive, supportive classrooms. Outside of teaching, Ms. Brewer enjoys spending time with my family, coaching volleyball, and hiking. Congratulations, Brooke!
Sabrina Sowards
Mrs. Sowards is currently a teacher at Ballyshannon Middle School, where she serves as a Complex Needs teacher. Sabrina is working toward earning a Special Education Endorsement Certificate. In addition to her role in the classroom, she has the honor of being a wife and mother. Sabrina has been married for six years and has three children. In her free time, she enjoys running, savoring a hot cup of coffee, and cheering on the Bengals during football season. Congratulations, Sabrina!
Jan Horn
Jan Horn is currently an 8th grade English Language Arts teacher at Robert D. Campbell Junior High in Winchester, Kentucky. She holds a Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Transylvania University and a Master's degree and Rank I from Eastern Kentucky University. Throughout her 25 year career, the last 15 in middle school, Ms. Horn has been dedicated to the profession. Jan is cuurently completing a second renewal of her National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certification. Jan loves teaching all things ELA, reading, traveling with family and friends, and spending time at home on the farm and at the lake. Congratulations Jan!
Mckenna Turner
Mckenna Turner is a graduating senior from Pineville High School. She has maintained a 3.9 GPA while completing over 20 hours of dual credit courses at her local community college. Throughout high school, she has stayed actively involved as a member of Beta Club and UNITE, and has taken on leadership roles as cheer captain and volleyball captain. Mckenna has also given back to her community through a summer internship at her school that included over 30 hours of community service. She currently works as a FRYSC office assistant through the Bell-Whitley internship program, and also shadows at a local dentist office to further explore her interest in the field. She was honored to be named to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Academic All-State First Team. After graduation, Mckenna plans to attend Somerset Community College in London, and pursue a degree in dental hygiene. She is grateful for this scholarship as she takes the next step toward her future. Congratulations Mckenna!
Mackenzie Caldwell
Mackenzie Caldwell is a senior at Pineville Independent Schools. She has attended Pineville Independent Schools since pre-school. During her high school career, Mackenzie maintained a 4.0 GPA while also taking dual credit courses. She stay involved within the school with Beta Club, student council, Jag KY, school news, and Bell County Youth Leadership. After high school, Mackenzie plans to pursue a degree in nursing at Lincoln Memorial University. In her free time, Mackenzie spends time with friends or shopping with her mom and sisters. Mackenzie will graduate from high school with an associates degree in May. Congratulations Mackenzie!

Isaac Wright
Isaac Wright, a 2026 graduate of Marion County High School, is the son of Wesley and Kim Wright of Lebanon, Kentucky. During his four years at MCHS, Isaac was on the SkillsUSA team, on the baseball team and played percussion for the MCHS Marching Band where he was the drum major his senior year. Isaac has earned several trade-based certifications through the Marion County Area Technology Center and has been the recipient of numerous academic, citizenship and work ethic awards. In the fall, Isaac will attend Western Kentucky University to study Agribusiness. Congratulations Isaac!
JP Carmichael
JP Carmichael is a senior at Corbin High School and has proudly attended Corbin Independent Schools since kindergarten. Throughout his high school career, JP maintained a 4.0 GPA while completing honors, AP, and dual credit courses, earning a weighted GPA of 4.404.His leadership and extracurricular activities include varsity soccer for four years and tennis for 3 years; being chosen as captain for both his senior year by his fellow teammates. He has been involved in the National Honor Society for 2 yrs, and served as treasurer for his junior class.JP is also very actively involved in his church youth group at Immanuel Baptist and has had the opportunity to serve several communities through mission work in Mexico and around the United States.After high school, JP plans to pursue a degree in Pre-Engineering through the dual partnership program between The University of the Cumberlands and the University of Kentucky. JP is extremely appreciative of this scholarship and the opportunity it will provide for him to continue his educational goals. Congratulations, JP!
