Retirement Announcement:
After 30 years of service in founding and building the Kentucky Association of Professional Educators, our Executive Director Ruth Green has chosen to retire.  The Board of Directors has named Donna House as interim Executive Director while the Board reviews applicants and makes a decision to name a new Executive Director.  Donna, a retired teacher from Laurel County, has worked for KAPE since 2010 as a regional representative, as the state Coordinator of Regional Representatives, and most recently since 2012 as the in-house paralegal.  The Board of Directors is confident that with the strong staff and presence of committed field representatives, KAPE will continue to offer quality service to its members, expand opportunities to improve education, and continue to track legislation that is important to ed


Attention Members:
National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP.  NAEP is the only nationally representative and ongoing assessment of what American children know and can do in various academic subjects.  It is considered the “gold standard” of elementary and secondary student assessments.

NAEP is preparing to deploy 6,000 staff to assess nearly 1 million grade 4 and 8 students in approximately 20,000 schools across the country between January 30 and March 20, 2017. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Administering  assessment sessions using tablets in schools for 2 groups of 25 students each
  • Ensuring quality control by adhering to a standard set of procedures

Prior education or research experience is a plus.  Ideal for retired educators.

  • Enjoy working with students in elementary and secondary schools
  • Be detail-oriented
  • Be able to work in a team environment
  • Have good communication skills

You can travel the world, earn professional development credit, and bring global understanding into your classroom.   Global Exploration for Educators Organization (GEEO) is a 501c3 non-profit organization that has sent over 1300 teachers abroad on adventurous travel programs.  With GEEO educators can earn professional development credits while seeing the world/ GEEO’s trips are 7 to 21 days in length and are designed and discounted to be interesting and affordable for teachers.  In addition to amazing tour leaders, many of the programs are accompanied by university faculties that are experts on the destination.  GEEO also provides teachers educational materials and the structure to help them bring their experiences in the classroom.  The trips are open to all nationalities of K-12 and university educators, administrators, retire educators, as well as educators’ guests.

GEEO is offering the following travel programs for 2016:Bali/Lombok, Bangkok to Hanoi, China, Costa Rica, Eastern Europe, the Galapagos Islands, Greece, Iceland, India/Nepal, Southern India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Morocco, Myanmar (Burma), Peruvian Amazon, Peruvian (winter Break), The Philippines (winter Break) and Mt. Kilimanjaro (winter Break).  The registration deadline is June 1, but space is limited and many programs will be full well before the deadline.
